(frank) Smyth- 2 years at 2 mill or 1 year at 2.5- hell even 3mill and done... If we give him a 3 year deal I am going to drive down to edmonton and boot Tambo in the nads! and there better not be any NTC poop in the contract either!! |

I'd have:
Sutter
Nelson
Cooper
Eakins |

When Bob Stauffer says Crawford isn't even in consideration i'm guessing he won't be their coach.... - Oil_Addict
The organization has said they haven't spoken to Sutter, and they clearly have.
Don't believe the hype. Tambi and Crawford go way back.
This being said, I don't think any "vet" is going to get this. They're going to go with Eakins or Cooper. Or they might go with someone completely off the board, like Doug Weight. |

Lidstrom for coach - andymaury
Of which team in Sweden? I don't think he's staying in North America. |

Never- Doug Weight would never get a shot by Tambo- if the team does not improve next year Tambo and likely even Lowe will be and should HAVE BEEN bye bye some time ago... |

Tambi needs this coach to be the one to take them to the promised land or else he's gone. He's not gonna hire another ex - vancouver canuck, because the last two didn't work |

The more I think of it the more I think we should not sign Smyth and use his money to sign Suter! Give him a mill more than he is worth on the market- does not matter as then we really move from lotto to playoffs |

God forbid that you could ever be completely objective. You ask why anyone would want to coach in Calgary but do you ever pause and think, "Why doesn't anyone want to play or stay in Edmonton?" Perhaps because it's like Winnipeg without the charm? Don't bother trying to convince me otherwise, I spend enough time in all three cities to be able to say it with confidence. |

Eakins - Oil_Addict
I am close to you but I don't see Eakin's dump and chase style flying with these young kids.
I will go:
Kreuger
Cooper
Sutter
Pretty sure it will be one of these three.
Nelson has stated he wants to return to OKC. |

I don't think that would matter.
Look at the options available:
Brent Sutter - Experienced coach. Has never won anything. Coached a blah team in Canada that did nothing. He's okay with kids, I'll give him that. Has more fire than Renney did, but not more brain cells. Might do an okay job. Might do a terrible job. Won't do a good job. Team would become more physical and aggressive, which means plumbers would get more ice than skilled guys.
Marc Crawford. - Has won a cup. Definitely has passion and is articulate. This could be the best or the absolute worse choice. Would be interesting to see how he'd use the kids, and more importantly, how he'd stand up to the vets who have been mailing it in for years in Edmonton. Team would play more defensive style under Crawford, and he wouldn't be afraid to bench anyone if required.
Paul Maurice - Renney-lite. Do we really want to go this direction? Smart guy, but he's coached over 1,000 games and has a losing record, which speaks volumes.
Ralph Kreuger - Known commonity if you're the Oilers, and there's merit to that. Kreuger is a nice guy, calm in his approach. More of a teacher. Would move team in a more defensive direction, but would likely hand leadership over to the kids.
If I had to pick from these four chuckleheads, I'm going with Kreuger. But instead of doing what is safe, I think the Oilers should do the right thing, and bring in someone who has done amazing things somewhere else. Someone fresh. Cooper or Eakins would do. |

Edmonton is going to have four elite-level players to coach.
The Flames have an elite-level mascot to watch.
Which would you rather work with? |

A weak attempt at starting a debate.
Cause There isnt one in this case bud.
Everyone outside of montreal, and id wager even a great deal in, would laugh at this statement. |

Agreed. I don't even think Robinson would put himself in the same class as Lidstrom. |

Crawford has been fired by 4 western conference teams in his career, i don't think the oilers will even consider a guy with that kind of resume. I know the candidates, don't need the bio. |

Eakins will suck a lot of the offensive skill out of the top players, not unlike what Hunter did with Ovechkin et al. The organization needs to decide which direction to take...win on offense, in which case guys like Crawford are the best option. If they want to win on defense, then go with Eakins, Therrien, etc. |
